Sand Sherpa, the only company licensed to conduct self-drive camping and overnight stays in the wilderness area of the UAE’s first national park, has announced the opening of its Nomad Camp for family bookings. Nestled within the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR), the camp offers an immersive desert experience designed to help parents and children reconnect with nature and each other.
Sand Sherpa’s Nomad Camp features traditional Bedouin-style tents equipped with modern comforts and easy access to the main dining area and bathroom facilities. Each Nomad Tent comfortably accommodates two adults and up to four children. With 10 tents available in a designated area, the experience is also ideal for larger groups. Here, guests can enjoy nomad-style cooking around a traditional three-stone fireplace, join a guided nature walk or relax by the campfire under the stars. Saturday bookings include additional activities for children, such as a movie night with marshmallows and popcorn.
The experience builds on Sand Sherpa’s signature adventure, which includes a scenic wildlife drive through the reserve en route to camp, an evening scorpion walk and morning hawk walk with trained birds of prey. Expert guides share insights into the desert’s flora and fauna, ensuring an experience that is both educational and memorable. Guests enjoy bush dinners featuring fresh salads, grilled vegetables, fire-cooked burgers and pizzas, followed by a wholesome breakfast the next morning.
Alongside its weekend camps, Sand Sherpa continues to welcome school groups as part of its proprietary Nomad Ways programme, founded on the knowledge, values and skills of the nomads to ensure they are not lost to the sands of time. Through hands-on activities such as fire-making, desert navigation and nomad storytelling, the programme inspires students to develop a meaningful connection with nature and instils a lifelong love of the wilderness.
With education and conservation at the heart of the team’s efforts, the experience highlights the delicate environmental balance of the desert and reinforces the importance of protecting this unique landscape. Furthermore, Sand Sherpa makes a donation to the reserve for every participant on their special eco-adventures.
