Parents joined Mother, Baby & Child Magazine at La Ville Hotel, City Walk on June 10 to explore technology, digital wellbeing, and future readiness in the age of AI.
Families joined us for an engaging and thought-provoking morning at our ‘Raising Children in a Digital World’ coffee event in partnership with Ambassador International Academy (AIA) Mankhool, where we explored the opportunities and challenges that technology presents for today’s families.
Through an interactive fireside chat, hosted at La Ville Hotel & Suites, City Walk with educational leaders from AIA, parents were invited to reflect on how children can thrive in an increasingly connected world while maintaining balance, wellbeing, and meaningful human connection.
Throughout the morning, expert perspectives were shared from AIA’s leadership team, including Paul Gardner, Vice Principal & Head of Secondary; Daniel Allmark, Head of Primary; and Patricia Ferguson, Head of Early Years, who explored the realities of growing up in a digital age, including the impact of technology on learning, attention, relationships, and emotional wellbeing.
Conversations focused on practical strategies for creating healthy boundaries around screen time, encouraging responsible technology use, and helping children develop the resilience, critical thinking, and self-awareness needed to navigate the online world with confidence. The panel also discussed the growing influence of artificial intelligence, highlighting the importance of preparing children not simply for the jobs of the future, but for a future that will require adaptability, creativity, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
A key theme throughout the morning was the importance of partnership between schools and families in helping children build healthy digital habits. Parents were encouraged to focus not only on limiting screen time, but on fostering open conversations, modelling positive behaviours, and creating opportunities for connection beyond devices. The event provided reassurance that technology itself is not something to fear, but rather a tool that can be used intentionally when supported by strong values, emotional wellbeing, and thoughtful guidance.
The morning concluded with a lively audience discussion, where parents shared their own experiences and questions around digital parenting, online safety, and preparing children for an AI-driven future. Above all, the event served as a valuable reminder that while technology will continue to evolve, the foundations children need most remain unchanged: strong relationships, resilience, curiosity, empathy, and a sense of purpose.
