Dubai’s private schools will adopt shorter days, flexible schedules and wellbeing-focused adjustments during the Holy Month.

Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has confirmed the official school timings for students during Ramadan, outlining new guidelines aimed at balancing learning with wellbeing throughout the Holy Month.

In an announcement issued on February 10, the authority confirmed that private schools across the emirate will adjust their normal schedules for all students. The move is designed to create a more supportive environment for families while recognising the unique rhythms of Ramadan.

Among the key changes, students who are fasting will be exempt from participating in physical education classes, reflecting a wider focus on health, flexibility and respect for individual needs during the month.

Shorter school days and flexible planning

According to the KHDA’s guidance, the school day during Ramadan should not exceed five hours. Schools are also encouraged to consider parents’ feedback when deciding on start and finish times, allowing communities to find a schedule that works best for their routines.

Fridays will see an even earlier finish, with schools required to end the day by 11.30am at the latest. This adjustment ensures students and staff have time to prepare for and attend Friday prayers.

For many families, the changes are expected to ease the daily pace while still maintaining consistent learning. Shorter days can help children manage energy levels, particularly those who are fasting for the first time, while also giving households more time to come together before iftar.

A balanced learning environment

In a statement, the KHDA emphasised its commitment to supporting students and families during the Holy Month, highlighting that the guidelines aim to maintain a high-quality education while respecting cultural and spiritual practices.

“As we remain committed to providing a balanced learning environment during the Holy Month, here are the guidelines for private school attendance in Dubai, ensuring a learning experience that aligns with the spirit of Ramadan and enhances the quality of education,” the authority said.

As Ramadan approaches, parents are encouraged to watch for updates from their child’s school regarding exact timings, transport arrangements and any curriculum adjustments – ensuring a smooth transition into a month focused on reflection, community and wellbeing.
