A local family-friendly break at Banyan Tree Dubai is one that swaps the city rush of Dubai for beach days and mindful moments.

There’s something about a staycation that feels instantly appealing when you have kids – the promise of a change of scene without the stress of airport travel. A stay at Banyan Tree Dubai manages to strike that balance beautifully, offering a calm, beachside escape that still feels easy and family-friendly.

Set on Bluewaters Island with sweeping views of the sea (and a very excited “look, it’s Ain Dubai!” from the kids), the hotel feels tucked away from the city’s usual pace. From the moment you arrive, expect everything to gently encourage you to slow down. Rooms overlook the Gulf, and quickly become a little haven between beach trips, snack breaks to the beachside gelateria, and the inevitable “just five more minutes” at the pool.

What stands out most is how easy it is to settle into a rhythm as a family at Banyan Tree Dubai. Mornings begin slowly with breakfast, where you’ll find a quality-led buffet selection as well as an a la carte menu filled with breakfast time favourites, next comes time on the beach where the kids could run freely along the sand while we actually managed to sit still for a moment – a rare win. The pools are equally inviting, with plenty of space to spread out without feeling crowded. Don’t miss the VIP cabanas, each equipped with plush, super lounge-able sunbeds, as well as sitting areas for relaxing.

For parents craving a bit of downtime, there’s a strong focus on wellbeing woven into the experience. While we didn’t quite make it to sunrise yoga (ambitious, in hindsight), the idea of having those options on your doorstep adds to the overall sense of calm. The spa menu is a plenty with tempting options, including a trip to enjoy the Rainforest Experience – your very own sensory-awakening experience using hot and cold pools, showers, sauna, and steam. There are also more energetic activities on offer, from beach games to fitness sessions, which older kids and teens would especially enjoy.

One of the real highlights for families is the Tropicool Kids Club. It’s bright, engaging and thoughtfully run, with a mix of activities that go beyond the usual soft play setup. From crafts and mini yoga to outdoor games, plus its own kids’ pool, as well as indoor and outdoor play structures, it gives the children something to look forward to – and gives parents a rare window to properly switch off, even if just for an hour – and if they want to stay longer, there’s also an in-club kids’ food menu for when they get hungry.

Dining feels relaxed and unfussy, which is exactly what you want with little ones in tow. There’s enough variety to keep everyone happy, and the option to linger over a meal while the kids are occupied (or happily tired from a day in the sun) makes a noticeable difference to the overall experience. Key options include Demon Duck, known for its bold, playful take on modern Chinese cuisine, and Alizée – the resort’s chic, French restaurant that serves up flavourful cuisine that’s perfectly presented.

What makes this stay particularly appealing for families in Dubai is how effortless it feels. You’re close enough to the city to avoid a long journey, but once you’re there, it genuinely feels like a break. It’s the kind of place where you can do as much or as little as you like – and not feel guilty either way.

For those considering a visit, there are a few current offers worth noting. The resort is running a staycation package that includes daily breakfast and dinner, a spa credit, savings on dining, and added extras like early check-in and late check-out, with children able to stay and dine for free. If you’re short on time, the Sea & Spa Serenity daycation is a lovely alternative, combining a spa treatment, lunch and full-day access to the pool and beach. There’s also a more casual pool and beach day pass option, which is fully redeemable on food and drinks and works well for a spontaneous day out with the kids.

All in all, Banyan Tree Dubai is one of those rare places that manages to cater to both parents and children without leaning too far in either direction. Expect to leave feeling like you’ve had a proper break – which, as any mum will tell you, is exactly the point.
