This Ramadan, Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah, Dubai brings guests together for iftar and suhoor at The Majlis, honouring the heritage of Old Jumeirah through a bespoke collaboration with pioneering Emirati artist Shayma Al Mughairy, known as the Queen of Sand.
For over a century, the golden sands of Jumeirah have quietly witnessed the lives of its people, preserving the memories of generations. During Ramadan, these sands became a gathering place for families and friends, coming together in majlises to share wisdom, pass down tales, and celebrate the unity that defines the spirit of the holy month.
This year, the resort has partnered with Emirati artist Shayma Al Mughairy, who crafted an installation using the unique symbol of sand, an element that binds both the culture and landscape of the UAE.
Sand, ever-changing yet eternal, reflects the spirit of Ramadan: a time to reshape our actions and connections with one another. Titled ‘Gift of Time’, this evocative installation brings to life the Ramadan traditions of Jumeirah, recalling a time when the area was a simple seaside borough.
This humble tribute from Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah, Dubai, pays homage to the neighbourhood that hosts the resort, recognising its rich history, the support of the community, and the enduring spirit of its people.
At the core of this experience is The Majlis, thoughtfully designed to bring people together from dusk until dawn. Warm interiors, live musical performances and an outdoor terrace overlooking the Arabian Sea create one of the city’s most atmospheric settings for iftar and suhoor.
As the sun sets, iftar at The Majlis begins with a generous buffet of Middle Eastern favourites, complemented by live cooking stations and signature dishes from two of the resort’s celebrated restaurants, Netsu by Ross Shonhan and Tasca by José Avillez. Live oud and qanun melodies accompany the evening, setting a soulful atmosphere that feels both refined and deeply connected to tradition.
As the evening deepens, suhoor at The Majlis unfolds at a more relaxed rhythm. A buffet of Arabian-inspired flavours, traditional desserts, refreshing beverages and curated shisha selection, offered outdoors. Set against a serene beachside backdrop, live melodies accompany the gentle hum of conversation, making it an ideal setting to unwind and reconnect before dawn.
